TRIO/UPWARD BOUND
Support Program for High School Students
ABOUT TRIO-UPWARD BOUND
The Gloria J. Taylor Foundation (GJTF) Upward Bound (UB) program is a year-round support program for high school students who have the desire, drive, ambition, and motivation to complete high school and pursue a college education.
TRIO
Upward Bound (UB) was the first of the federal TRIO programs to be funded through the U.S. Department of Education. TRIO is a series of programs that has been created to help low-income Americans enter college, graduate, and move on to participate more fully in America's economic and social life.
While student financial aid programs help students overcome financial barriers to higher education, TRIO programs like Upward Bound help students overcome class, social and cultural barriers to higher education.
There are currently more than 700 Upward Bound programs serving students throughout the United States. The primary goal of the Upward Bound program is to increase the rate at which participants complete their secondary education and enroll and graduate from colleges and universities.
